Sufi Women: A Contemporary Journey of Oneness highlights one of the common spiritual threads uniting East and West - at a time when, as Samuel P. Huntington’s book states, many would like to see a ‘clash of civilizations’: the often overlooked role of women in Islam and the pivotal role played by women such as Nusaybah Bint Ka’ab.

Sufism, unlike some other spiritual orders, is not a ‘secret’ or exclusive mystical sect, but an inclusive tradition expressed from time immemorial, among the greatest of mystical and spiritual traditions that seeks the joy of oneness of Spirit openly.

There are over five million Sufis today, and many modern authors have been influenced by Sufism, including Robert Graves. Sahar explores contemporary Sufism, what it means to be a Sufi, and how it is expressed through the feminine principle: the Sufi women of today.

From a series of interviews with contemporary Sufi women from different countries and backgrounds living and practising Sufism today ‘in the West’, the author composes a multidimensional picture as expressed through them, an understanding of the multiple facets of Islam and Sufism.

There is potential also to produce a CD or DVD of these interviews.

• The book will appeal to all those interested in a deeper, more practical and contemporary portrait of what a Sufi is, expressed through Sufi women.

• It is different because it reflects the lives and journey to the ‘Oneness’ of contemporary Sufi women in today’s world through personal interviews.

• It is unique because the author traces her own Sufi heritage and lineage.
