Maura Bright, a Member of the British Acupuncture Council and the Association of Reflexology, runs a successful practice in London’s Harley Street.

Since l986 she has been studying, practising and teaching Chinese Face Reading under Daphne Youngson, a student of Dr. Frances Wong in Hong Kong.

In developing and expanding the modern diagnostic aspects of this lineage of Face Reading through her acupuncture practice, one-to-one consultations with clients and her own research, Maura has made Face Reading into a contemporary art without losing touch with its traditional roots.

She treats the healthcare needs and stresses of modern day clients using nutrition, psychology and the spiritual aspects of the five elements. This approach can be used by acupuncturists as well as healthcare practitioners who do not have an in-depth knowledge of oriental diagnostics.

Maura has taught Face Reading to acupuncture students at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, the London College of Traditional Acupuncture Master to Novice programme, and the Westminster Acupuncture College’s Tuina students and post-graduate Prospect Seminars.

She holds workshops for health care professionals and psychotherapists at her clinic.

She has given workshops in London at The Inner Potential Centre, The Shiatsu-Do College and The Life Patterns Society, and to Qi Gong students and spiritual development groups around the UK.

She has also given demonstrations and readings at corporate events and Press launches (Dior, Avon, Witch and Bourjois) and participated in The Crystal Ball at London's Institute of Contemporary Arts – an interactive spectacle on Futurology.

The Chinese Way of Face Reading is an accessible handbook for a modern audience, detailing its philosophy, history, lineage, and diagnostic techniques.

It describes how to assess the physical, psychological and emotional causes of health imbalances, restore vitality levels, envisage the past and the future and explains how best to employ this information to help clients in the treatment room. The face is an open book!

The Chinese Way of Face Reading demonstrates how the face adheres both to the Five Elements Theory and Yin and Yang.

It reveals how the topography of the face and the zones relate to internal organs, and how the Chinese view of body ecology can contribute to an understanding of modern psychosomatic stress.

It also explores a range of related healthcare issues such as how to balance hormones, promote weight loss, clear toxicity and improve fertility, by implementing clearly explained dietary and lifestyle changes.
