Caroline Sherwood has taught meditation to adults since 1980, in local college evening class settings, and run retreats and courses on related themes, such as Manifesting The Life We Truly Want, Becoming All We Can Be and Live This Year As Though It Were Your Last.
Caroline’s self-published first edition of this book sold out (Kidsmed 1995).
Her second book Naming: Choosing a Meaningful Name (Hawthorn Press: 1999) was inspired by the birth of her godson. Caroline appeared on the Gloria Hunniford Show to discuss the book - at the time of the birth of the Prime Minister’s son, Leo Blair.
Alixandra Marschani’s life-long interest in the sacred art of iconography began in Paris.
Besides producing traditional icons, she has recently developed her own expressive art in response to meditation. A qualified primary teacher and RE co-ordinator, she teaches in a vibrant multi-faith inner London school, using meditation techniques for children’s personal, social and emotional development.
Making Friends with Ourselves is uniquely designed for adults to engage 7-11 years olds in fostering self-knowledge and creativity, cultivating their natural state and making spirituality a vital reality for life.
Though in part inspired by Theravadin and Tibetan Buddhism, the exercises – ‘experiments’ - are suitable for use by children of all faiths and cultures.
Modules are presented in three sections:
Purpose/Focus
Exercise
Additional Activities.
Illustrations are designed for colouring/ converting to ‘stained-glass windows.’
The book concludes with a comprehensive list of resources.
Making Friends with Ourselves has had favourable reviews and is recommended by the Meditation in Schools network.
